HARVEST DATES:
Sept. 20 - Nov. 4, 1999 |
|
Grapes
were harvested at an average 24.8° Brix, fermented in stainless steel tanks,
then aged for 17 months in a combination of new French oak barrels (20%) and
two- to four-year-old French and American oak (80%). The wine was blended
and bottled in June, 2001. |
Cool
temperatures characterized much of the 1999 growing season, but the absence
of rain and a warming trend in mid-July insured the grapes would properly
mature. While picking was two to three weeks behind normal and crop yields
were down from the previous year, the harvest nevertheless yielded highly
extractive fruit with good color, flavor and acid levels.
The result is a full-bodied red wine with aromas of red fruits, dried flowers
and spices followed by jammy, ripe berry flavors, soft, sweet tannins and
complex layers of fruit. |
