| This Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blend offers aromas of green apple and lemon grass, with a hint of pear. While the Sauvignon Blanc adds to the fruity aromas and freshness of this wine, the Chardonnay helps fill out the length, texture and balance. Lively acidity on the palate is followed by a clean, fruity finish.
2006 VINTAGE NOTES:
The 2006 growing season started slowly with bud break two weeks behind the historical average. Spring, which began with an abundance of moisture in the soil from the winter rains, continued with cool weather, a significant amount of cloud cover and periodic showers, including five inches of rain in April. Bloom dates in 2006 were behind the average by one week yet conditions were excellent, yielding good fruit set.
There was a record setting 10 day heat wave near the end of July. Most blocks had an exceptionally long veraison period beginning in early August, which may have been caused by the extreme temperature during berry formation. During veraison we anticipated the cooler forecasted autumn an took this time to adjust the crop; green harvesting was implemented to ensure more even ripening.
Harvest for white grapes began September 1st with Sauvignon Blanc. Reds began fairly late (September 27), due to cooler fall weather. |
