1992
Cabernet Sauvignon 'Backus Vineyard' |
 |
A
blend of 96% Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Rutherford Bench Merlot.
After fermentation, the wine was aged 25 months in French oak barrels before
being blended and bottled in January, 1995.
Vineyard-designating a wine implies the presence of aroma and flavor components
distinctive to the site where the fruit is grown. Because of its unique combination
of soil composition and site exposure, the Backus Vineyard is among that select
group of California vineyards worthy of special designation. Over the years,
this ruggedly unique parcel has turned out a series of remarkable wines characterized
by intense flavors of berry, chocolate and mint, soft tannins, and the potential
to age for many years.
From The Wine Advocate, 6-30-95: Score: 92. ". . . stunning,
opulent, rich, full-bodied, highly concentrated, creamy-textured . . . the
1992 displays plenty of cassis and chocolate, but less mint than usual.
It can be drunk young and cellared for 15 to 20 years."
