The
acreage we have planted to Merlot in Stag's Leap and the Rutherford Bench
provides us with consistently outstanding fruit quality, even in a year with
the challenging climatic conditions of 1993. The vintage was characterized
by a light crop and warm growing season, which culminated in a heat spell
at the end of August. Grapes that withstood the high temperatures developed
good sugar and acid levels, and ripe, concentrated flavors. The finished wine
is full-bodied and powerful, with a hint of oak, pronounced tannins, and flavors
of black cherry, mint, plum and chocolate. |
