Due
to cold weather and unseasonable rains, the 1998 harvest was the latest in
our 25-year history. To maintain fruit quality, immature grape clusters were
removed from each vineyard — a process which substantially reduced tonnage.
As mentioned with Ovation, careful selection during the blending process played
a key role in the quality of the finished wine. We find the Los Carneros Chardonnay
full of aromas of ripe pears, citrus, floral notes and toasted oak, with expansive
flavors and rich texture delineated by a wonderful acid balance that is noteworthy
even for this vintage. |
