Joseph Phelps Le Mistral 2004
Score: 90 points

Juicy, savory, and ripe, with peppery black raspberry and currant aromas, sweet flavors, a hint of tar, no evidence of oak, and a long, heady finish, it will provide pleasure over the next 5-6 years. (12-26-05)

Joseph Phelps Ovation Chardonnay 2004
Score: 90 points

. . . a burgundian-styled white aged on its lees that enjoys full malolactic fermentation, tips the scales at 15% alcohol. However, there is no hotness in its big, sweet, brioche, honeysuckle, and orange marmalade-scented bouquet. Full-bodied and heady, it is ideal for drinking over the next 1-2 years.

Joseph Phelps Insignia 2003
Score: 91 points

Medium-bodied with an evolved sweet nose of chocolate, black currants, plums, and toasty new oak, this [2003 is] rich, ripe, and well-balanced. . .

Something fancy for the Easter table
By Michael Dresser
Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service

2003 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley. Joseph Phelps has been producing great cabernet for three decades, and I've been around long enough to taste most vintages. This one is as fine as any young Phelps cab I've tasted - and that's saying a lot.

It's about the perfect combination of youthful accessability and long-term aging potential. The texture is velvety, and the flavors are typical Napa - black cherry, black currant, chocolate, hebs - but with just a little more nuance and roundness than most of its peers.
