NY & CT open up for direct shipping
On July 13th, 2005, New York Governor
George Pataki and Connecticut Governor Jodi
Rell each signed legislation making their states the
28th and 29th, respectively, to allow interstate,
direct-to-consumer wine shipments. These were
also the first two states to correct discriminatory
laws ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme
Court on May 16.
According to Free the Grapes, the lobbying
group dedicated to overturning the ban of directto-
consumer wine shipments, "The signatures
remove discriminatory statutes that allowed instate
wineries to ship to their consumers and
denied that same privilege to out-of-state wineries."

implications of the ruling, review the white paper
